First Impressions
Back on the blog, had nothing much to write about until I got to try Dominion of Spear and Bayonet.
Now I’ve seen mixed reviews, but on playing through it I’ve found it engaging and just damn good fun.
What surprised me most is how easy it translates into a story, a tale of the battle can be easily weaved.
I’ll crack on and you will see.
Welly in Maratha.
I went for the first battle listed, three times I failed as the East India Company, this battle (4th) went really well.
Second Anglo-Maratha War (1803 - 1805 AD)
Turn 1
On the left flank the Confederacy’s cannon roared at the Highlanders of McDonald, who then went on to storm the position and capture gun.
Turn 2.
In the centre of the battlefield the light dragoons got the message from their madras scouts the artillery was nullified, with a hoot of joy they sprang forward like mad men making the Confederacy’s line troops run off!
Going to the right of the battlefield the Company’s Phillips Native Madras were put to the test by the Confederacy native cavalrymen who were seen off quick smart, extra rations for those men!
Turn 3.
On the left flank McDonald wakes his men from their revelry, seems out of the pan into the fire, spearmen dead ahead! With true strength down and away with them bayonets levelled, and that’s the left secure! Some Gin for those brave men!
The Confederacy made one last ditch attempt at saving face, the counter charge from the Dragoons with native Madras light sealed the deal, well done old Wellesley! Just the ticket old boy!
Conclusion.
How on earth did I fail to do this 3 times?!?
(Sorry Welly).
I think or can remember the Maratha Confederacy Artillery doing a lot better, but I do not think I got anything too wrong the first 3 times.
I can remember the trained line made a better run of it too, to be fair. Both had a fair go at attack and defence as far as that goes.
Apart from how the dice fell I’m baffled.
If the Confederacy of Maratha is rolling the right results, the Company with only 4 elements will fall I guess.
I feel it does try and promote the feel of the “right thing vs the right thing”, so you have to get your cogs in line to stand the optimal chance.
I guess I’m learning the tough way hey?
At the moment for me, this game is well worth another go, it ticks so many boxes for my situation.
It’s simple, yes, but engaging enough with more to test out.
