Barker squared
Something which I did not think about, but was reminded of, then promptly forgot….. until today.
In a talk/interview (battle chat) between Cordery and Hyde, something was said about “if De belis Antequitais was made grid”.
I’m game, I thought, that sounds like fun.
Surely all I need is to use one of my drawn maps, get the representations for the forces I am to use and away I go!
Well..,let’s see what I have to modify slightly.
PiPs /tactical movement: individual or groups convert in squares, foot 1:1 ; horsed 2:1. Majority of the other rules keep as written, I should think. Okay wow that was simple…
Right, what do I fancy playing? No bloody clue haha! But I am very keen on having something going on, it can’t just be for the camps all the time, i may have to turn to some actions from One-hour wargames.
Something similar has been tried as an experiment by a fellow war gamer in this part of the world, though he thought to 'grid' DBM on a hex field. We tried it out, but I wasn't convinced. One would somehow have to incorporate in the rules some method of 'group movement - not impossible, perhaps, but I don't think it would be trivially simple, either. I've played DBA and HotT but don't recall whether one PIP might be used for multiple bases. I guess one just has 'to suck it and see'.

Oh gosh hexes ? That sounds more difficult to get your head around, by formatting the base sizes to one fits all, I’m having an easier time of it; though I must admit you do loose a lot of the subtle nuances, which is a shame.
